Hummers!

I thought I would post a few photos of my Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds. I wake up every morning anticipating to see them at the feeder right outside my window.

Finally, an update!

I should have posted the birds of prey photos, right after the last post, but it didn’t happen! Then I got so busy that I haven’t really been on top of things. Better late than never.

Anywho, when we went back to the Bird Sanctuary they had their birds of prey out for a photo shoot. So they put all the birds up natural settings so we could get great shots of them.

I am still around.

I will update soon.  Things have just been kind of crazy lately.

The Bird Sanctuary, Thursday May 1st.

I’m sorry I haven’t been around for awhile. I have been on vacation for exactly a week today. I have to go back to work tomorrow night. I have been bird watching every day, and am loving that the weather has been beautiful for the most part.

I went to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, on May 1st and on May 4th. I went both times with my parents. The first day we were there, we went hiking for the most part. We saw a few birds on the trails, and went into their walk through aviary. It was pretty neat.

On Thursday we saw

A Downy Woodpecker

A Myrtle Warbler

A Rose Breasted Grosbeak

A Blue Gray Gnatcatcher

and a

Bluebird

While hiking that day. I also saw a Mallard pair, a Great Blue Heron, and some White Breasted Nuthatches.

I’ll post again sometime soon to show you the photos of the birds of prey that I took at their event on the following Sunday. It was really something!

Cardinal Nesting

This isn’t the best photo, as it was taken through a window. My Mother in law has a Cardinal Nesting right outside of window. There is a gazebo feeder that is mounted on a pole that she hardly ever uses anymore.

What a beautiful day.

I took some more photos today. I had a long day of bird-watching, and I loved every minute of it! It was such a beautiful sunny day. These are some of the better photos that I took today.

Seeking them out.

I went to my inlaws yesterday, to take some photos of their birds. They always have a really great assortment of birds that come to their feeders. Granted, these photos aren’t the best photos I have ever taken. But, they do the job. Considering most were taken halfway in the rain or through the window – I don’t think they are that bad.

I did see several birds, but only picked out a handful to photograph.

I saw quite a few chipping sparrows

A downy woodpecker

A few chickadees

Some titmice

and I saw a Cardinal but it was just as elusive as the one I saw here, so I didn’t get a photo of it either.

Cardinals hate to pose for me, hehe.

Look who came to visit!

I happened to see the house finches again today, but as soon as they saw me this morning they were long gone. Who knows when they will be back.

However, I got some pretty decent shots of a Red-Bellied Woodpecker. I believe it’s a female.

I like the last one, because she knows I see her.

My suet feeder chain is broke. I believe it to be the works of a giant raccoon I saw the other night. I found my suet feeder on the other side of the drive, when my other two feeders had no movement or loss of seed (so I know it wasn’t the wind!). Plus, I saw the raccoon heading that way the other night. That explains my hillybilly use of the ribbon, hehe.

Anywho, I also saw the male Cardinal I saw the other day again, but I had a bad photo op. I took one anyway.

I’m getting back into the hobby.

I’ve decided to start my own blog about my bird watching. I use to bird watch frequently, and now it seems like I never get a chance to enjoy my hobby anymore. So here I am, starting to get into the hobby again (which I love).

Today, I saw a Northern Flicker searching for bugs in the wooded area behind our apartments. I have also seen a house finch at our feeder outside of the window. If I only had a chance to photograph the Flicker. The Flicker was too far away to photograph. If I had a better telescopic lens maybe. I identified him through a pair of binoculars my husband bought me.

The house finch, saw me and flew away in quite a hurry. He was feeding at the tube feeder right beside my window.

Edit: The house finch returned and brought his mate! I got a photo but it’s not of the best quality because it was taken through the window =).
